Ohio Reports More Than $16 Million in October Sports Betting Tax Revenue

Ohio notched another successful sports betting month in October, despite tax revenue being slightly down when compared with September.
The Ohio Casino Control Commission reported $746,298,634 in total Ohio sports betting handle for the month, an increase of nearly $56 million in total handle when compared to September. However, total taxable revenue was down for the month, with the state reporting $80,577,223 compared with September’s $81,767,838 in taxable revenue.
Online sports betting accounted for $724.14 million of the state’s total handle for the month.

Ohio reported $16,115,444 in sports betting tax revenue for October, a slight decrease from September’s $16,353,567 in sports betting tax revenue.
Promotional spending among the online sports betting operators dropped in October as operators tightened their spending for the second month of the NFL season. Operators spent $38.6 million on promotions for the month, a decline of nearly $14 million from September’s total.
DraftKings slightly edged FanDuel in terms of online handle, as the sports betting operator reported $258.7 million in total online handle compared with FanDuel’s $258.6 million total. However, if you include FanDuel’s $481,660 in retail handle, it pushes the operator’s total October handle to over $259 million.
FanDuel also notched the highest online sports betting taxable revenue total for the month, reporting $30.9 million compared with DraftKings $28.6 million.
No other operator in the state crossed $50 million in online sports betting handle in October. Bet365 cracked the top three operators with $45.6 million in online sports betting handle for the month.
In its last month of operation in the state before experiencing its rebrand to ESPN BET, PENN Entertainment’s Barstool Sportsbook reported $19.8 million in online handle and just $1.6 million in taxable revenue.
