Sunday’s Best MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Picks
(All odds courtesy DraftKings Sportsbook)
Atlanta Braves (-108) vs. New York Mets (-112) | O/U 8.0 (-110/-110)
Starting Pitchers: Reynaldo Lopez vs. David Peterson
The Braves earned a 4-0 win last night, which means they’ll be trying to salvage a series split this afternoon in the Big Apple. Today’s pitching matchup features a battle between Reynaldo Lopez and David Peterson. First pitch is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. ET from Citi Field in Queens, NY.
This will be Peterson’s 10th start of the year. The Mets are 8-1 in his outings. As for the NRFI, Peterson has blanked the opposition in all nine decisions. The left-hander gets an Atlanta offense struggling right now, ranking 24th in both wRC+ (87) and wOBA (.294) over the last 14 days. I think Peterson, who brings in a 5-0 record, 3.14 ERA and 1.48 WHIP, should handle this slumping Braves offense.
As for Lopez, he’s putting together a mammoth debut season for Atlanta. The right-hander enters the series finale 7-4 with a 2.12 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 18 starts (101.2 innings). Lopez has mowed down the Mets in the past, limiting their current roster to a slash line of .186/.278/.314 over 70 at-bats. The NRFI has hit in eight of New York’s last nine games, including all three contests in this series. Look for this trend to continue today as Lopez and Peterson square off.
Bet: NRFI (-130)
Seattle Mariners (-108) vs. Chicago White Sox (-112) | O/U 7.0 (-115/-105)
Starting Pitchers: Bryce Miller vs. Garrett Crochet
The Mariners issued the White Sox their 13th straight loss last night, beating them 6-3 in the Windy City. The two sides are back at it again this afternoon in a pitching matchup between Bryce Miller and Garrett Crochet. First pitch is set for 2:10 p.m. ET from Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, IL.
I don’t mind laying the juice in this spot. These are two of the worst offenses in the league and they’ll be taking on a pair of dynamic starting pitchers. Seattle ranks 28th in scoring this year (3.83 runs per game), while Chicago is dead last (3.06 runs per game). Over the last 14 days, the M’s are ranked 20th in wRC+ (94) and 22nd in wOBA (.295), while the White Sox are 29th in both categories (53, .242).
Crochet (3.07 ERA) has cut down Seattle’s lineup in the past, limiting their current roster to a slash line of .174/.240/.522 over 23 at-bats. The left-hander has been lights out at home this year, logging a 2.31 ERA, while holding the opposition to a .196 batting average. As for Miller (3.41 ERA), he’s held the White Sox to a slash line of .097/.152/.129 over 31 at-bats. Let’s lock in the NRFI in Chicago this afternoon.
Bet: NRFI (-160)
Pittsburgh Pirates (-102) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (-118) | O/U 8.5 (-110/-110)
Starting Pitchers: Mitch Keller vs. Yilber Diaz
The Diamondbacks have won their last four games, which means they’ll be looking to break out the brooms against the visiting Pirates this afternoon. This pitching matchup pits Mitch Keller against Yilber Diaz. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET from Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ.
The Pirates have been the second-best NRFI team in the league this year, cashing the prop bet in 68 of their 104 games (65.4%). On the road, they’re 35-17 to the NRFI. This is a great spot for them as they turn to the tried-and-true Mitch Keller. The right-hander comes in at 10-5 with a 3.34 ERA (24th) and 1.24 WHIP (1.24). Keller has corralled Arizona in the past, holding them to a .203/.282/.297 slash line over 64 at-bats.
Diaz will be making his fourth career start this afternoon. The right-hander allowed just one earned run in each of his first two starts (12.0 innings) but got blown up for seven earned runs last time out against the Royals. Hopefully, he can settle in and turn in a decent outing against this mediocre Pittsburgh offense. They’re just 18th in wRC+ (98) and 17th in wOBA (.310) over the last 14 days. The Pirates are 26th in first-inning scoring, averaging only 0.38 runs per 1st inning. Let’s lock in the NRFI in the Valley this afternoon.
Bet: NRFI (-120)
